They say that food is symbolic of love, when words are inadequate. With this in mind, we have been looking for an amazing chef for Simply Wed. We’re thrilled to announce that we have now partnered with Free Range Chef, who will be preparing world-class cuisine for all Simply Wed weddings.
Executive Chef Stephen Weeks is at the top of his game. Originally from the UK, Stephen has travelled the world honing his skills and cooking in many countries, for 5-star hotels and top restaurants in Europe and Asia, even cooking for Sir Richard Branson at one exclusive resort. He found his way to New Zealand 13 years ago where he worked at the iconic Chapel Bar in Ponsonby, then launched his own company where he could put his passion and culinary creative skills into – Free Range Chef.
The Simply Wed team did a tasting with Stephen, and we were blown away. We were looking for top quality food that was not only delicious to befit your wedding day, but plentiful – no one wants to go hungry at a wedding! And no one wants to be let down by the food. Wedding food can be over-priced and below-par. It can also be messy, so we wanted food that was easy to eat as well as delicious. Stephen’s menus are innovative, interesting – and a taste sensation!
The nature of our menus means that your guests can sit where they want, and eat what they like. Your wedding reception begins with a choice of 4 canapés such as Horipito Lamb, Walnut Sable, Fig & Onion Jam with Blue Cheese, or our fave – the Haloumi and Bacon Wrap! Then come 2 small plates (‘walk and fork’ mini meals), such as pulled-pork sliders or the Indo-Thai Mango & Coconut Bhel Salad Boats (Chaat masala potato, coriander, coconut, mango, Thai basil and chickpeas with puffed rice served with yogurt and tamarind).
Later comes the ‘Graze Craze’ – generous grazing platters chock full of goodies such as Manuka Smoked Salmon, Honey-roasted ham off the bone, breads, or Mediterranean style antipasto items such as cured meats and cheeses. There are also simply divine dessert options including a mini deconstructed Fresh Lemon Meringue tart in Butter Pastry cases, or Dark Chocolate and Almond Torte with Orange Butter Mousse. Your meal ends with a slice of decadent wedding cake from Cake & Co. We can also of course cater to your dietary requirements, be that vegetarian, vegan or gluten free, without compromising on flavour. The Vegetarian Flower Pastry Pot with Avocado Mousse Lime and Dill is a firm favourite, even with the meat eaters! The quality, quantity, variety and ease of grazing menus is why they are such a hugely popular choice for weddings right now.
